Cairo, Egypt
Anas ibn Malik's mother was a very good woman.
She became muslim but her husband did not. He stayed a disbeliever. They lived together for some time and Um Anas always told
Abu Anas that he should be a muslim and worship Allah not his idols. He would not listento her and he would even try to stop
her from worshiping Allah. Um Anas would not listen to him. This made Abu Anas very upset, so one day he left Madinah to go
to As- Sham. But before he got there a man on the road killed him, so Abu Anas died a disbeliever. Anas was now an orphan.
Um Anas loved her son Anas ibn Malik very
much. She wanted him to be a very good muslim. She was always teaching him Quran and Ahadeeth of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه
وسلم .
When Anas was still a little boy, a man name
Abu Talha came and asked Um Anas to marry him. She said “No . I will not marry you because you are a disbeliever"
. Abu Talha left her and thought about what she said. He returned after a while when he became a Muslim and asked her
again to marry him. This time she said "yes."
Um Anas knew that she wanted her son Anas to
be the best in Islaam . She knew he needed a very good person to be like and a very good teacher. So she took him to the best
role model and the best teacher, the Messenger of Allah صلى
الله عليه وسلم .
When Anas was eight years old she held Anas
by his hand and took him to the Messenger of Allah صلى
الله عليه وسلم and said to him,
“Oh Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم
! There is no man or woman among the Ansar who has not presented you with a gift, but I am not able to present you
with anything except this som of mine, so take him and let him serve you in a way that you see fit.”
Anas live with the messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم
and stayed close to him, so that one day he could be just like him. Anas did everything the messenger did, He
ate like the Messengerصلى الله
عليه وسلم . He drank like him. He worshiped Allah like him. Anas stayed
with the messenger for ten years always working hard to be just like him.
While Anas bin Malik was living with the Messenger
Allah صلى الله عليه
وسلم , he saw that the Messenger صلى
الله عليه وسلم was the best role model. The
Messenger Allah صلى الله عليه
وسلم was always loving and very kind hearted to Anas. He treated him like he was his own son.
He never raised his voice to Anas or beat him. He always treated him well.
Anas said “ I never felt brocade
or silk softer than the hand of the Messenger Allah صلى
الله عليه وسلم nor did I smell a fragrance
sweeter than the smell of the Messenger Allah صلى
الله عليه وسلم . I served the Messenger
Allah صلى الله عليه
وسلم for 10 years and he never once said ‘ Uff ‘ to me ,nor did he ever say
‘ Why did you do this or that?’ or ‘ Why didn’t you do this or that?’
As a little boy Anas took part in the battle
of Badr fighting against the disbelievers , serving the Messenger Allah صلى
الله عليه وسلم . He was a very good archer
and hardly ever missed the target.
When Anas was a little boy Um Anas asked the
Messenger Allah صلى الله عليه
وسلم to make dua for Anas.
He said “ Oh Allah increase
him in Weath and Children.”
Allah Answered His dua because he had a lot
of wealth and about one hundred children and grand children. He also had a fruit orchard that gave fruit twice a year.
Anas loved Allah and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم
so much that he spent his life always trying to be just like the Messenger Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم and
stay away from the things that would make Allah and the Messenger Allah صلى
الله عليه وسلم upset.
He loved the Messenger Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم
so much that when the Messenger Allah صلى الله
عليه وسلم died he would sometimes sit and think about him and cry a
lot , and couldn’t wait for the day when he would see him again.
Anas grew up and stayed a good man who had a
good reputation. No one ever had anything bad to say about him.
He spent his life as a servant
to Allah and his Messenger صلى الله
عليه وسلم . He was the last of the companions to died at the age 90
years old.
